These are the timeless ideals we value as a firm.  In today’s hyper-connected world information floods the system making it hard to filter out what’s important.  Investors easily get lost in the minutia and deriving intelligent signals from the noise can be very difficult.

That’s why our investment approach is one based on fundamentals and is true to the principles laid down by my fellow Columbia luminaries – Graham, Dodd, Buffet, Greenwald.  To be cliché, we aren’t searching for that one big bet, instead we look for sustainable value with appropriate levels of risk.  We look for lots of winning bets, year over year; And we want them on solid, liquid assets (Stocks, Bonds, ETFs, Derivatives).

Holding “old fashioned” principles does not however preclude us from also leveraging innovation.  Rapid advances in technology have given investment firms access to modeling and computational analysis capabilities unheard of even a decade ago.  A select few investment houses have harnessed the talent, technology, and fortitude required to build out these platforms, while others have struggled to capitalize on modern technologies and paradigms. 

Knowing the pitfalls, we cut a path straight towards our goal – designing our own cloud native streaming data platform in 18 months.  Our platform executes complex calculations using AI and Machine Learning models to support our 3 key investment strategies, using PCA and HMM to backtest our portfolios against multitudes of possible conditions.  With mountains of data to process, we rely on innovation to give us an edge in the market in a systematic, reliable, high-information ratio manner.
